Southern Suds® Handmade Soap

Welcome to the original Southern Suds® handmade soaps from the deep south in Alabama. Did you know that most commercial soap bars are not really soap at all? They are actually nothing more than detergent, which can be harsh and drying to the skin. Enjoy the luxurious, rich lather that can only be found in a bar of real handmade soap. Southern Suds® soaps are made from scratch right here in our kitchen. Our soaps are handmade in small batches using the cold process method. They contain high-quality vegetable oils, such as coconut, palm, canola and olive oils with shea and/or cocoa butters added for extra moisturizing and enhanced lathering. Some of our soaps contain skin-nourishing goats milk or coconut milk. In addition to these wonderful, moisturizing oils and butters, many of our soaps contain herbs, botanicals or oatmeal to gently nourish and exfoliate the skin. Some contain powdered herbs, spices, clays and natural pigments for texture and color. Southern Suds® soaps are scented with essential oils or cosmetic-grade fragrance oils and are safe for face and body. All soaps are hand cut and may vary slightly in shape or size. Each bar weighs between 3.5 and 5 ounces. Handmade soap bars are softer than commercial detergent bars, because they do not contain any hardening chemicals. If you properly store your beautiful soap in a draining soap dish between uses, you will find that it will last just as long as the commercial bars.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are not the same as perfume or fragrance oils. Where essential oils are derived from the true plants, perfume oils are artificially created fragrances or contain artificial substances. The chemical composition and aroma of essential oils can provide valuable psychological and physical therapeutic benefits. These benefits are usually achieved through methods including inhalation and application of the diluted oil to the skin. Essential oils are often used by diluting them with a carrier oil (sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, grapeseed oil) and then applying this blend to the skin for absorption. Careful inhalation of the oils can also provide therapeutic benefit as the oil molecules enter the lungs and are absorbed into the bloodstream. I do not recommend the use of essential oils during pregnancy. Please check with your physician before doing so.

Mineral Oil – What You Should Know

Read the labels on commercial lotions, oils and creams, and you will note that most of them contain a high percentage of mineral oil, an inexpensive by-product of petroleum. Mineral oil, with added fragrance, is marketed as “Baby Oil” in the United States and in the United Kingdom. It is commonly used as an ingredient in baby lotions, cold creams, ointments and other pharmaceuticals and low-grade cosmetics. There is some debate about the benefits of using mineral oil as a moisturizer for the skin, and it is widely believed by those of us who handcraft our bath and body products, that mineral oil clogs the pours and does not allow the skin to breathe. Dearly Yours products do not contain mineral oil. We use only the finest, purest oils available to make our wonderful products.

Allergies

Though rare, some people are allergic to certain botanicals, milk, nut oils, bee by-products and other ingredients commonly found in bath and body products. If you should notice any skin irritation after using a Dearly Yours product, please discontinue use immediately.
